Artist Dinner

October 18, 2017 at 6:30PM

Monroe House

October’s guest artists from Virginia, Maryland and DC, will discuss their work with members and guests at a dinner Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 pm.

Virginia artist Roberta Pruett Beasley says, “My acrylic and mixed media paintings explore and celebrate the world around me. Enjoy the beauty of the big sky, the mountains and the open plains. Marvel in the colors of the sunset, or the clouds against a bright, blue sky. Travels to Greece, Hawaii, California and New Mexico have filled my mind and camera with multitudes of images that clamor to be translated onto canvas.”

Maryland artist Michael Spears explains, “To create my images I generally listen hundreds of times to a connecting piece of music to visually interpret its sound and essence through its rhythm and melody. Using either mixed-media or oil, and with the spontaneity of intuitive marks and shapes, I bring my conception of how a particular piece of music would look. My Opus series is the abstract results of my process.” “Ultimately, my creative effort is to have the viewer appreciate music not only by listening to it, but seeing it too.”

Washington, DC, artist Betsy Stewart creates paintings of microscopic and macroscopic nature: origins of life from a drop of water to systems in the cosmos. By giving these images a presence, the work speaks to our fragile position in the universe. The viewpoint about this delicate interconnectivity expressed in Stewart’s art corresponds to naturalist John Muir’s words: “When we tug at a single thing in nature, we find that it is attached to the rest of the world.”

Dr. Erich Keel curated the October exhibit.

Dinner is $50 per person. Seating is limited so reserve early. Reservations can be made at (202) 331-7282 ext. 3 or at
