On Wednesday May 31, the Arts Club of Washington welcomes pianist Sam Post who will play some of his favorite Scott Joplin rags celebrating the centennial of Joplin’s death.  Post’s presentation will guide us through the history of Ragtime from its humble beginnings through its modern evolution tracing its complicated relationship to both the jazz and classical worlds along the way.  The program will include early rags by Joplin to the mid-century classics of William Bolcom to modern incarnations by Post and other living composers.

Sam Post is a San Francisco Symphony-commissioned composer, pianist and teacher living in Washington, DC.  He made his recital debut at age 14 with an all Bach program and in high school performed as a soloist with the Georgetown  Symphony, the Washington Bach Concert and the National Symphony Orchestra.  In 2013, he joined the piano and chamber music faculty at Washington’s Levine Music, recorded his first two studio albums, and won first prize at the Wonderlic Piano Competition and honorable mention at the Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition.

Please join us on May 31 for Sam’s performance.   Reservations at 202 331-7282, Ext. 3, or by email at  Program will begin at 7 pm; doors open at 6:30.  Cost is $25.  A reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres will be held before and following the program.
