Sandra Gobar: Coded Marks in the Geographic Landscape

Exhibition Dates: April 22 – May 28, 2016

About the Artist

Sandra Gobar is an abstract artist whose individual studio practice encompasses mixed-media drawing, oil, encaustic, collage and fabrics. Recently, Gobar moved away from an expressive, figural painting style towards a conceptual mode of working by investigating the geographic, landscaped environments, experimenting with excavating, carving, and incising with fragments of topographic vintage maps and texts to draw connections between natural and constructed systems.

Gobar earned her B.S. degree in Textiles, completed Graduate Coursework from Parson/Paris School of Art & Design, Paris, France; Painting Studies from L’Accademia De Belle Arti Lorenzo da Viterbo, Italy and was Awarded an Artist-in Residency appointment in Drawing, Painting & Mixed-Media from The School of Visual Arts in Chelsea, NYC.

Gobar’s works are included in numerous collections nationally and internationally.
