Nestled in the center of the nation’s capital, the Monroe House is a beautifully furnished historic and landmarked mansion. Once the home of President James Monroe, built around 1800, it has preserved most of its original character. The Arts Club is a gallery-style venue with event space on three floors and an expansive walled garden and terrace. It is the perfect venue for a DC event with a capacity of up to 400 for a cocktail reception and 150 for a seated dinner.

The Arts Club offers full-service catering for private events. Our Chef will design a menu specific to your preferred choices and the season’s freshest provisions. Our attentive catering team provides impeccable service and will create a memorable experience for your events.

Founded in 1916, the Arts Club of Washington, was the first art club in the city. For over 100 years the Club has promoted the arts and facilitated communication among artists. It is a thriving art scene with a theater, multiple art galleries, a sculpture garden, and a permanent collection. Every month, new artists from around the world are exhibited creating artistic energy in the background of your private events.

THE MONROE HOUSE

Set in an unparalleled location in the heart of the nation's capital, our historic and unique space is ideal for a wide variety of events and occasions.

The Monroe House at the Arts Club of Washington provides an elegant backdrop to any event. A rare Washington DC's gem, it was built for entertaining. The stylish clubhouse offers spacious rooms, eclectic galleries, and a theater. The stone and brick patio offers a versatile outside space with a sculpture garden. Those who appreciate and patronize the arts may delight in the Arts Club relentless support of visual, performing and literary arts.

THE MONROE PARLORs

Located on the first floor of the house, the Monroe Front Parlor and Dining Room comfortably seats 60 guests or more. The traditionally decorated rooms combined make an excellent choice for an evening reception.

THE THEATER

The Theater offers a large open space, a built-in stage and natural light. It's a great space for receptions, dinners, performances, conferences, meetings and ceremonies. Also called the Monroe Gallery, it showcases every month the work of different artists, creating a unique historical and cultural background to any events.

THE UPSTAIRS SALONS

The Front Drawing Room run the full width of the Monroe House. The historic decor includes a Steinway grand piano. The room may be used separately for the most intimate occasions or can be combined with the Small Drawing Room and MacFeely to host larger parties.

THE MACFEELY GALLERY

Stained glass and works of art adorn the walls of the MacFeely Gallery. The room may be used for a small gathering and Board Room style meetings.

THE PRIVATE GARDENS

These private gardens combine elegant hardscaping with vibrant flowers and lush foliage. The area can be tented for events with up to 200 guests. The rental of the first floor provides for the exclusive use of the outside patio and garden.
