Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

Discover the joy of drawing in a special course designed for anyone who has thought, “I’ve always wanted to draw but never took lessons,” or “I love art, but I just can’t draw!”
Based on the NYT bestseller Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards, this class will teach basic drawing skills using the right side of the brain. If you can sign your name, you can draw—and it’s fun!
The class begins Saturday, May 23, from 10:15 a.m. to noon and runs for six consecutive weeks. Each session follows the drawing skills and simple practice exercises from the Edwards book:
- May 23: Practice drawing shared edges
- May 30: Space beside and beyond
- June 6: Proportion and perspective
- June 13: Relationships
- June 20: Light and shadow
- June 27: Gestalt—seeing the whole and its parts
Space is limited to 10 participants.
Fees: $75 for members, $90 for non-members, plus $25 for supplies (HB pencils, drawing pad, gum eraser, and the Edwards book, pre-purchased by the Club).
Coffee and tea provided at no cost.
May 23 – June 27, 2026 (6 sessions)
Watercolor (for all levels), with Instructor Vian Borchert

In this 6 week Watercolor painting course, designed for all levels, students will explore traditional watercolor and experimental watercolor techniques. Color theory and composition are emphasized through images based on varying subject matters such as landscape and still-life and studies of master artists’ artwork. Students are welcome to work from the images the instructor provides or bring their own images to work from.Students will be guided in creating a pleasing work of art.
